Bead Curtain: two coordinating lace knitting stitch patterns

I tried another experiment with picture knitting, this time with Purse Stitch as the background mesh, with similar results to the previous experiments. However, there was something about it that gave me an idea for an abstract stitch pattern, and here’s the result of that. It comes in two parts, and the appearance reminds me of bead curtains.

I worked the rows in the first variation one and a half times, and the second variation two and a half times times. I cast on accidental extra stitches and didn’t bother to start over. No big deal, really, since it’s just a swatch.

Notes:

  • These are stitch patterns such as might be found in a stitch dictionary. They are not meant to be patterns for finished items. Selvedges are not included in the instructions.
  • There are yarnovers and decreases on every row.
  • I’ve made stitch maps for them: variation 1, variation 2.
  • Designers, please feel free to use these stitches (or the general principle)  in your patterns. I’d like credit but won’t be offended if people don’t give it.

Abbreviations:

  • k: knit.
  • p: purl.
  • p2tog: purl 2 stitches together as if they were 1. (Right-leaning decrease)
  • yo: yarnover.

First I worked two rows of Purse Stitch: *yo, p2tog; work from *.
