a chart for the other bunny ears hexagonal mesh from last week

This is a chart and instructions for the one that StitcherUniverse came up with. My long blog post from last week is here.

Notes:

  • This is a stitch pattern such as might be found in a stitch dictionary. It is not a pattern for a finished object. You will need to add selvedges or some other form of knitted stitches to either side.
  • This mesh needs a cast on that is a multiple of 5 + 4 stitches. The number of stitches varies from row to row. It has a 4 row repeat.

Abbreviations:

  • 5-to-2 bunny ears decrease: slip each of 2 stitches knitwise. Knit the third (the yo from the previous row), but don’t remove it from the left needle. Pass the 2 stitches over the new stitch on the right needle. Knit 3 together (the yo from the previous row and the next 2 stitches beyond it) and remove from left needle. Two stitches have been made from five.
  • k: knit.
  • p: purl.
  • yo: yarnover.

Row 1 (RS): k2tog, *yo twice, 5-to-2 bunny ears ; work from *, yo twice, ssk. [multiple of 4 + 4]
Row 2 (WS): p1, (p1, yo, p1) in double yo, *p2, (p1, yo, p1) in double yo; work from *, p1. [multiple of 5 + 5]
Row 3: yo, *5-to-2 bunny ears, yo twice; work from *, 5-to-2 bunny ears, yo. [multiple of 4 + 4]
Row 4: p3, *(p1, yo, p1) in double yo, p2; work from *, p1. [multiple of 5 + 4]
